Barrack room for cavalry soldiers at Arbeia Fort, South Shields. Inside a fort the soldiers lived in long barrack blocks, each block was divided up into squad rooms with a centurions suite of rooms at the end. With 8 men in a single squad, this means that 80 men (a full century) will occupy a single block, with the centurion commander living in his more luxurious accomodation at the end. In a cavalry barracks the blocks were divided in two. One room for three soldiers, the other room for their horses.
